The Consone Quartet, the first period-instrument string quartet to be selected as BBC New Generation Artists, are known for their honest and expressive interpretations of the quartet repertoire, notably from the Classical and Romantic eras. In this concert, the augmented ensemble presents a programme of richly textured chamber music, featuring Brahms’ magnificent String Sextet in B flat and Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht, a landmark piece of lush Romantic harmony and intense emotional depth.
