Lukas DeRungs is an award-winning pianist from Mannheim, Germany, whose music draws on influences as diverse as contemporary jazz and Renaissance choral music. Curious, adventurous and richly atmospheric, his work moves effortlessly between intricate composition and spontaneous improvisation.
A vibrant presence on the European jazz scene, DeRungs performs with his acclaimed trio de lucs and leads his British-German quintet. Formed in 2022, the quintet has developed a distinctive sound through extensive touring, combining lyrical melodies, rhythmic energy and adventurous improvisation. Their 2025 album, WAKE, met with widespread acclaim; praised for its 'exceptional standards of performance', the album was hailed as the work of 'a supremely accomplished pianist and the visionary force behind this varied and very impressive album'.
