Germaine Tailleferre - Piano Trio

Lili Boulanger - D’un matin de printemps

Ludwig van Beethoven - Piano Trio in B flat, op. 97 ‘Archduke’

Praised for their ‘exhilarating, highly-toned’ performances (The Arts Desk), the Mithras Trio have established themselves as one of the current generation’s most exciting and dynamic piano trios.

Established in 2017 while students at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, they shot to international recognition winning first prize at the 10th Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition (2019). In the same year they also achieved first prizes in the 67th Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition and Cavatina Intercollegiate Chamber Music Competition, and were recipients of the Royal Philharmonic Society Henderson Award. Named as BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists for the 2021-2023 seasons, they have recorded extensively for BBC Radio 3, as well as giving live-broadcast concerts from the Cheltenham, Hay, Ryedale and Belfast International Music festivals.

Their programme for the Granary opens with Tailleferre's 1978 restless and rhythmic piano trio, followed by Lili Boulanger's famous celebration of springtime D’un matin de printemps. It concludes with Beethoven's ‘Archduke’ Piano Trio, a huge canvas conceived on the grandest scale - the Everest of the piano trio repertory.
