'The musicianship is so big, so irrepressible that he transcends the instrument he is playing...'
- BBC Radio 3 Record Review
We're delighted to welcome rising star Samuele Telari back to the Granary. Described as 'an artist whose overwhelming musicality goes beyond his instrument’ (Il Sole24Ore), he was a prize-winner at the 2019 YCAT International Auditions in London. Samuele has performed at Wigmore Hall, Schlern Music Festival, Snape Maltings, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Verbier Festival and the Divertimento Ensemble Rondò series in Milan. In 2021 Delphian released Samuele’s recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations to critical acclaim. He regularly features on BBC Radio 3, Rai RadioTre, Radio Classica and Radio Popolare Milano.
Samuele’s programme combines lighter, popular music (which the accordion was originally associated with) alongside darker, folk-inspired pieces from Russia and Ukraine. Schnittke’s Revis Fairy Tale (a suite rescued from his incidental music for a banned play) is satirical and darkly comic whilst Volodymyr Runchak pays homage to Stravinsky with music reminiscent of the fairground organ in Petrushka. Much-loved pieces by Grieg, Shostakovich and Paganini, deftly arranged for accordion, complete the programme.
